A wonderfully rare example of a polychrome cassetta frame. The flat profile is ebonised and hand-painted with floral scrolls in gold and red, the sight edge finished with a gilt bead-and-reel border. The cassetta is a frame type most associated with Tuscan panel painting of the 16th and 17th century.
